Oldham Athletic Vs Sheffield United 06/08/2011
Travel: For my first visit to Boundary Park, we drove over from Sheffield to see the Blades play the first game of the 2011-2012 season. Easy to get to, thanks to the modern wonder that is Sat Nav. No traffic and a steady run got us the at half past one for the three o'clock kick off.
Pubs: Like what felt like most of the 3.5 thousand travelling blades, we were directed to the Clayton Green pub not far from the ground. A couple of pints of Boddingtons went down a treat, but the bar staff looked busier than they probably expected to be. A decent mix of locals in there too - good atmosphere but couldn't wait for the game to start.
Impressions: First impression was that the ground is looking a little sad and unloved. A large car park that runs down one side of the ground, the same side that has a demolished stand leaving a three sided ground. That's not a problem though - we had one of those at Bramall lane too some years ago, so it was a little like going back in time.
Facilities: No problem with leg room or toilets. Basic facilities - but that was what we expected. Stewards very helpful, not a hint of any bother all made for a good day out.
Exit: No problem in geting away, just a short delay on the roads out due to the amount of traffic - again, expected so no problem really. Decent stewards - at least the ones i spoke to anyway.
Enjoy: Blades fans in good voice, great atmosphere in the away end. The ground is easy to get to - loads of parking available and a couple of pubs nearby. Worth a visit to Oldham to get another ground ticked off, and three points too. Bonus!
