The stadium became notorious for an apparent "away team hoodoo". The first twelve major cup finals were all won by the teams occupying the home dressing room with their fans in the North Stand. Stoke City beat Brentford 2-0 in 2002 to end the "hoodoo", but only after an expert in the fine art of feng shui, Paul Darby had carried out a blessing. This may have been little more than a publicity stunt but seemed to do the trick. In the photos above, there's one of a painting in the away team dressing room, put there to help remove the 'bad aura'.
